Pragmatics, Grammatical Interfaces, and Jerry Sadock Conference
Call for Papers (closed - deadline passed)
Mini-Conference to Celebrate Jerry Sadock's Academic LIfe and Retirement
University of Chicago
May 2-3, 2008
Abstract deadline: November 30, 2007
Jerry Sadock is retiring in the spring of 2008, after several decades of research and teaching on the faculty of the University of Chicago. For this occasion, we are planning a mini-conference for May 2-3, 2008 to celebrate his multiple contributions to the field of linguistics. We are therefore soliciting abstracts for 20-minute presentations from his former students and his friends for this event. We would prefer papers that address topics and issues on which Jerry has contributed academically.
If you are interested in participating in the mini-conference, please submit an abstract, not exceeding 400 words by November 30, 2007. Preference will be given to papers presenting original, unpublished linguistic analyses that have a clear connection with one or more of the themes that figure prominently in Jerry’s own research. Please submit your abstract electronically to all of the following addresses: tista_b@yahoo.com (Tista Bagchi), yuasa.1@osu.edu (Etsuyo Yuasa), and s-mufwene@uchicago.edu (Salikoko Mufwene). Please use the following format for the abstract:
-
title of paper
-
author’s name, institutional affiliation, and email address
-
text of the abstract
You will be informed of the final program by 15 January 2008.
We are hoping that the papers will form a thematically integrated bunch that can be edited into a decent Festschrift to be offered to Jerry after publication. For this we will also consider papers by interested colleagues who for one reason or another cannot participate in the mini-conference. If you fall in the latter category and would like your paper to be considered for inclusion in the Festschrift, please send your abstract by November 30 as well. We need all abstracts to put together a representative book proposal to be submitted to potential publishers. The deadline for submitting the papers to the editors is August 31, 2008. A style sheet and other information relevant to the submission will be sent to the contributors soon after the mini-conference.
If you have questions we have not addressed, or just some suggestions, feel free to contact anyone of us.
