Writing
Project #3
For
Writing Project #3, you will do a different kind of writing than you’ve
done so far for this class. First of all, the audience will be different.
Instead of writing for the members of our class (WP #1) or for a broader
academic audience (WP #2), you will write a letter to a funder for our
class, asking for materials that can be used with your literacy partners
at Medary. This funder will fund up to $40.00 of materials.
Second, you will be writing these letter in collaborative groups. There
will be three groups: 2 groups of 5 people each, 1 group of 4 people.
Each group will work on one aspect of the proposal.
To complete this assignment successfully, your group will go through
the following steps:
1) Choose what you want to fund. This may include doing some research
about tutoring materials, how much they cost, where they can be purchased,
etc.
2) Decide what will need to be done to write an effective letter. How
is writing this kind of a letter a persuasive task? What do you need
to tell a funder to convince them that your request is worth funding?
3) Decide who will do what tasks.
4) Set up a schedule for completing those tasks so that we can all look
at the draft of the letter with the other groups on a date that we as
a class choose. This information is part of Journl 20, due at the end
of class on Wednesday, November 17.
5) Decide what criteria will be used for evaluation of each group member.
