Medary Elementary School Demographics
Information from Mr. Larry Jones, Principal

Demographic Information about Medary:
K-5 with ESL and Special Ed students mainstreamed
240 students
More boys than girls (which seems to be the trend in CPS right now)
Poverty Rate 90% based on free and reduced lunch applications
Of the 240 students, 46% are black, 41% are white. 30% of the total are ESL, predominantly Somalian. In addition, there are other students who are Hispanic, and still others who represent a broad range of nationalities.
Medary has 2 special education classes; one for Developmentally Handicapped students, a second for students with Specific Learning Disabilities.
A large group of students (ESL and Special Ed) ride buses, representing 11 zip codes.
The remainder of students walk from the neighborhood which goes from the freeway to Olentangy River Road and from Chittenden to Arcadia. (So Medary is at the north end of its district).
