Final
Exam
For the final exam, Id
like you to look over the work youve done this quarter and take
stock. Since September, weve done several different kinds of work:
* Reading (Help America Read, I Am a Pencil)
* Writing (Writing Project # 1, your literacy narrative; Writing Project
#2, investigation of a issue relating to education; Writing Project
#3, proposal letter; your weekly journals)
* Responding to papers inside and outside of class (talking with other
classmates, with Mindy)
* Discussion and collaboration (about Pencil, about how to
produce the proposal letter)
* Using the computer (to do research on the Internet)
* Visiting Medary (observations of tutoring sessions)
Choose one of these activities
and explain what was important about it to you in the context of this
class. How did it contribute:
To the tutoring project of the class (working with Medary students)
OR
To your own understanding of literacy (reading and writing practices)?
You might think about how this activity made you think more closely
about reading and writing processes in general. Or you might
think about how that activity asked you to look at your own reading
and writing processes more carefully, how it helped you think about
ways to strengthen your reading and writing skills. Or you might
write about how you looked at the kinds of work or adjustments that
you are making in college. Or you might take another approach
of your own choosing that will accomplish the goals set out for this
assignment.
You may write as many drafts of this essay as you like. I will be happy
to look at them before the final exam on Thursday, December 9, 7:30
am. At the exam time (in Denney 307), you may bring any resources you
need (for example, Pencil or Helping America Read,
your journals, previous essays), and a few notes for your own essay.
You will have 1 hour and 48 minutes to write the essay. To explain the
activity and its significance (i.e., to write an average or C level,
paper you will need at least two pages of text, I would imagine. To
explain in detail (i.e., to do an excellent job), you may need to write
more. Like some of the other assignments this quarter, the length will
take care of itself once you begin writing.
