Writing Project #3
Describing and Analyzing Your Work with Your Community Partner
This "writing project" includes two pieces. The first is a one-page business memo, addressed to a student in next year's English 567C class. It should describe and analyze your work with your community partner this quarter. (For discussion on writing business memos, go to Purdue's Online Writing Lab, "Memo Writing.")
Please include the following in your one-page memo:
1) Description of the basic "facts," such as where you worked, who you worked with, and what kinds of projects you did.
2) Descriptions and analyses of any changes in plans that occurred during the quarter. For instance you might have begun your work focused on one particular project and then decided with your community partner to change to a different one. Or you might have originally thought of your project in one way and then come to conceptualize it in another. Did anything surprise you in this work? How did you handle challenges or surprises?
3) Explanation or analysis what you learned from this work. You may include what you learned about the specific site, about writing, about working in a non profit, etc.
The second part of WP #3 is the group presentation on your quarter's work with your community partner on March 1. The written memo can obviously be the basis for your individual part of that group presentation. In your part of the presentation, you will want to include all of the criteria listed above.
If you are a graduating senior, the written portion of WP #3 is due on Thursday, March 6. If you are not graduating this quarter, the written portion of WP #3 is due at the no later than Monday, March 10, 9:30 am.
