It is expected that, when possible, the reviewer will
have used the material to be reviewed with students.
- Please consult the “Guide for Authors” printed
near the end of every issue of The
French Review.
- Membership in the AATF is required of all
reviewers.
- Limit your review to 650 words (excluding the opening bibliographical
data, ISBN, and price). If you are combining two or more distinct
titles in one review, you may lengthen the review to 1,000 words. A review
of one title with various ancillary materials is limited to 650 words. Err
in the direction of less, not more. Overlong reviews will be returned for
pruning. Please indicate the total
number of words at the top of the first page, right side.
- Write in French only if your command of French is
better than that of English.
- In the upper left hand corner of the first page
of your manuscript, type your name
and the address to which proofs
are to be sent, preceded by the caption “Proof to.”
- Type your last
name next to each page number (if more than one page). Example: (2-
Tremblay)
- Consult the latest issue of The French Review for the content and correct style of
bibliographical heading and block quotations. Reviews that do not use the
correct style will be returned.
- Please note that the style of this journal
requires a comma [,] before “and” in a series.
- Use double spacing throughout, including the
bibliographical heading and block quotations.
- Leave ample margins for the editor’s marks.
- At the end of your review, type the name of your
institution (indented 2 spaces)
at the left, your name (no titles)
at the right. Institutions that are elementary and secondary should be
identified on the following line, underneath the name of the institution,
with the name of the town and state spelled in full (Olney, Illinois).
- On a separate page, indicate the following
information:
- The title of the material being reviewed.
- Your name and institution.
- The address of the publisher and the name of the
person (if known) at that organization who should receive copies of your
review after publication in The
French Review.
- Send a copy of your review by e-mail as a word
document attachment to [wynnewong@aol.com]. In the subject
line of your e-mail message, please write: The French Review. Send an original typescript (not a photocopy) of your review
to the Review Editor, Prof. Wynne Wong, at the address above. Your
manuscript will be forwarded to the Managing Editor if it is accepted.
- Further communication concerning your manuscript
and proof are to be addressed to the Managing Editor, Prof. Sharon Shelly, sshelly@wooster.edu. The Managing Editor will send a galley proof to you for review
before the article is published. Be sure to keep a copy of your review
until it is published. Inform him of any change in your mailing address.
- It is expected that you will not review elsewhere
any work that you are reviewing for The
French Review.
Nota bene:
There is no fee for postage required of reviewers.
