Love Letters

"No one can love unless they are compelled by the eloquence of love"

Andreas Capelanus, The Art of Courtly Love

My Lovely Reader-

I have been thinking of you again. My mind wanders from my task as I dream about your thoughts and reactions; the way your mind will squirm under mine as I reveal myself to you. My thoughts touching yours; yours, hopefully, touching mine. You cannot be here with me, though I wish you were. I see you in every shadow cast on the wall; I hear you in every creak of the stair. Though you cannot be here, I hope that you will remember me as you read my words, and imagine yourself cuddled up with me, alone in the dark, to read at them.

Love-

Jessica

While surfing through the web one day, serching for something to do, I came across a page that could write personal love letters. All one had to do was fill in a form and a love letter, taliored to one's beloved, would be returned. This was The Cyrano Server. This discovery started me thinking about love letters:

My questions about love letters indicated that something I had taken for granted as simple and easily defined, was not. For this reason, I decided that this topic needed further examination. In my explorations, both on- and off-line, I have determined that there are several important factors to consider when studying love letters:

However, there are some problems that arise when studying love letters. The most important is the personal and subjective nature of the letters. As private documents, the letters themselves can often be difficult to get. Many, for instance, are destroyed after the failure of a relationship. Most of the time, the only letters that are published are between notable people, often authors, skewing the perception of love letters as texts written only by accomplished writers. Another difficulty in studying love letters is the fact that any collection of letters, love letters in particular, do not tell the entire story. There is a large body of unexplained plot points that must be known for the letters to be understood (Letter 3 is a good example.). Keeping all of this in mind, however, it is still possible to adequately examine the phenomena of the love letter.

Computer technology has influenced love, as well as love letters. There are many pages on the web that provide links to love and romance sites. Here are a few:
