Carmen Taleghani-Nikazm, PhD (University of Texas at Austin, 1999). Associate Professor, Co-director and Coordinator of Undergraduate German Language Instruction. Previous teaching appointment: University of Kansas, 1999-2006.
Specializations: Conversation analysis; grammar and social interaction; cross-cultural pragmatics; foreign language pedagogy; TA development and language program direction.
Publications:
Books: "Request sequences: The intersection of grammar, interaction and social context" (John Benjamin Publishing, 2006).
Articles and book chapters on: teaching and learning L2 pragmatics; politeness on web chats; the social action of requests in conversation; native-nonnative speakers interaction; politeness on telephone conversation.
Major awards: Fulbright research award (2003); excellence in undergraduate teaching award (2002); excellence in graduate teaching award (2001)
