General Background:
I work with an interdisciplinary approach to the study of rights, law and political discourses. Thus far, my research has been preoccupied with questions of how rights-based categories emerge and evolve and what is at stake in those articulations. My current project is a genealogy of global political discourses on women's human rights looking specifically at sex trafficking and sexual harassment. I am interested in how rights norms developed at the global level and comparatively, looking specifically at Soviet and post-Soviet Russia. Key Research Concepts: Genealogy; Sex Trafficking; Human Rights; Law; Gender; Geopolitics; Cold War; Feminist Methodologies; Postsocialist Cultural Studies; Theorizing the Global and Transnational. Select Recent Publications: "Is Postsocialism Transnational?", Signs: Journal of Women in Culture and Society, Summer 2011. "Is there a Postsocialist Critique?" Journal of Personality, Culture, Society (in Russia), Summer 2011. “Contextualizing Discrimination: The Problem with Sexual Harassment in Russia,” Journal of Women, Politics & Policy, Vol. 29, Number 3, 2008.
