Latino Ohio:
A Culture Course in English
for Educators and Other Professionals

A close-up look at Hispanic life in Ohio
with attention to cultural, linguistic, and professional issues
especially important to those working with Spanish-speaking populations.

Meeting Around the State on six Saturdays next spring

Taught by Professor Terrell A. Morgan

5 graduate or undergraduate credits of SPANISH 589S

LATINO OHIO is a five-credit course designed to introduce educators and other professionals to Ohio's Hispanic populations through small-group interaction with faculty specialists and community leaders; hands-on exploration of Hispanic gathering places across the state; a range of learning formats, information sources, and research methodologies; networking with others with related vocational interests; and concentrated work on a project tailored to their own professional development.

The course is taught in English. No knowledge of Spanish is assumed, but aspects of Spanish are highlighted (and practiced, if necessary) in the context of cultural phenomena intimately related to language.

CLASS MEETINGS

Class will be held on Saturdays usually beginning at 10:00 a.m.
A light lunch will be provided, and the group will move to a local restaurant for an early dinner,
finishing up by 7:30 p.m.

Please note that class begins on April 4. Students may receive books and assignments in advance of that date so as to begin reading and become familiar with the many online and community resources available to them. Class will be held every other Saturday through May 30, and then once again the following Saturday. (The calendar has been set so as to avoid the weekends of Passover, Easter, Mother's Day, Memorial Day, and OSU graduation.)

Students enrolling should make plans to attend all six classes!
