ReadingsPhilosophy H276, Spring 2001Professor HubinNote: I am trying to get as much of the reading as possible on-line. Where an assigned
or recommended reading is available on-line, there will be a link to the reading. If a assigned
reading is not linked, it means I have been unable to find it on-line. Those readings will be
available on reserve at the library or handed out in class. If it turns out that we need a lot
of articles that are not available on-line, I will arrange to have a reading packet made up by one
of the local printing companies. |

"Meditations" (Mediations 1, 2 and 6) by Rene Descartes "The Traditional Problem of Body and Mind" (from Mind and Its Place in Nature), by C.D. Broad "The Mind-Body Problem" by Jerry A. Fodor [handout]
David Chalmers' "Online Papers on Consciousness" "What is Functionalism" by Ned Block Philosophy Notes The author, Melanie, apparently has no academic affiliation. She is just interested in and excited about philosophy. Despite her "amateur" status, her notes are generally clear, accurate and helpful. (Remember, 'amateur' historically meant someone who pursues a topic for the love of it, not for pay. It didn't originally mean someone who was not well versed in the subject.) Her notes may be especially helpful for students precisely because she isn't a professional philosopher. "Is the Mind Physical?"by Peter B.
