Education:
Kai Hammermeister studied philosophy, German literature and rhetoric at the University of Tübingen, Germany and at the University of Virginia. M.A. in German literature (1992, University of Virginia), Ph.D. in philosophy/German literature (1995, University of Virginia. Adviser Richard Rorty).
General Background:
Areas of specialization: Continental philosophy, aesthetics, hermeneutics, German idealism, intellectual history. Monographs: Hans-Georg Gadamer (C.H. Beck, 1999/2006; Korean translation 2001; Dutch translation 2002); The German Aesthetic Tradition (Cambridge UP, 2002); Kleine Systematik der Kunstfeindschaft.
