• Fewer texts to think about: as you study focus on some easily identifiable features: poetry or prose? An “I” or third-person narration? Basic subject matter and major conflicts.

Short Answer

· Owen’s poetry & Hardy’s “Convergence”: specific events poems responded to; how events and poems relate to “modern” sensibility

· Woolf: how does she define “being” and “non-being”?

· In “The Dead”: Gabriel’s relationship to Irish culture and politics at beginning of story and end.

· A few colonies (your choice) that England lost in 20th Century: what is impact of this loss on literature?

· Rushdie’s view on religion in “Prophet’s Hair”: how would you describe it?

Extra Credit

• Short answer/definitions: be able to provide a few details defining the following terms and their importance to literary periods -- doesn’t have to be comprehensive, but should be accurate
