WELCOME STUDENTS
TO THE POSSIBILITIES OF TEXTS
TEACHING BY THERESA DELGADILLO
My classroom is about the exploration of cross-cultural exchange, comparative ethnicities, multiple literatures and visual cultures. Creating opportunities for vigorous but respectful discussion among students and recognizing that students bring valuable experience and knowledge to learning are important aspects of my pedagogy. As a teacher I strive to bring your individual student experience and knowledge into conversation with the perspectives, topics and texts offered in the course, and with the viewpoints of other students. I help you to gain a critical appreciation for the literatures, theories and histories at hand and to develop approaches to interpretation. Off-campus events are often included as either assignments or extra credit and, recently, I have been working with students in service learning projects that provide opportunities for us to extend our class discussions into the world beyond campus and to bring new knowledge into our classroom. As an instructor I am fortunate to have the opportunity to work with so many talented, intellectually curious, motivated and hard-working students.
