ALL ABOUT ME

Theresa Delgadillo.

I grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where a small Mexican - American community was first established in the early twentieth century. This group grew into a multi-faceted Latino/a community in the twenty-first century, not unlike that of many Midwestern cities. This is one reason why the topic of Latino/as in the Midwest interests me; the Midwest being a region that has not always been viewed as a home to Latino/as.

I enjoy walking, hiking, yoga, bicycling, cross-country skiing, and sometimes skating.

My educational path was that of a non-traditional student: my undergraduate education was interrupted by several years of work. I completed the B.A. at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and went on to earn the M.F.A. at Arizona State University and the Ph.D. at the University of California, Los Angeles. I funded my undergraduate studies by working summers in a steel mill and part-time as phone operator during the school year. When I later returned to undergraduate study I took out loans for one year to enable me to finish. Throughout my graduate studies I worked as a teaching or research assistant, and benefited from important scholarships and fellowships. Great teachers, mentors and classmates have blessed my path in higher education.
