The Rio Grande Mexican Restaurante was highly recommended to us by a Guide
on our
Whitewater Rafting Adventure. Checking
it out on the Web, we found that the food has consistently been rated as among
the best, check out this statement by BvilleBlnd (whoever he is...):
I eat here every time I am in the area, which is about once every two weeks. The men do stare at the women but it only makes you feel good about yourself. They just appreciate women. As for the food, it is the best! I recommend trying the cheese sauce in mild if you do not like it real spicy. As for the service, at times you can't understand them but what do you expect, THEY ARE SPANISH. They do however come to your table often. The restaurant at times does need to be vacuumed but there is also people waiting to eat, what do you expect. Overall, I say eat there every time.
The Mavens found the Rio Grande to be a very nice family style restaurant. It was medium noisy, played continuous light muzak and featured an assortment of booths and tables.
We ordered the house speciality, Frozen Strawberry Margaritas. They were served in Margarita glasses, made of heavy plastic which although not glass, were acceptable - No salt, but with a straw. We have found that Frozen Margaritas should not be drunk through a straw, you're likely to get a brain cramp!
Unfortunately, the Margaritas didn't quite live up to our expectations. They were good basic Margaritas, nothing special, in which the alcohol taste was quite evident. This in itself would not be bad - had it been a better alcohol. We did find out later, from talking with the local folk, that had we requested it, the Rio Grande would have made our Margaritas from Cuervo Gold. Then perhaps the Margarita might have received a higher rating. But for now, the Margarita Mavens give the Rio Grande a rating of 5.
