General Background:
Virginia Cope, Associate Professor in the Department of English (Ph.D, University of Virginia), is the author of Property, Education, and Identity in Late Eighteenth-Century Fiction: The Heroine of Disinterest, published by Palgrave MacMillan in 2009, and articles and reviews on gender and economic transformations, African-American literature, and racialization. Currently working on projects on free woman of color in antebellum New Orleans, cosmopolitanism and pedagogy, and the fictional representations of Mary Wollstonecraft.
