This is a UTF8-encoded webpage. Recommendation on setting of font preference for Netscape 4.x to view this webpage and other Chinese webpages encoded in UTF-8:   EDIT > PREFERENCES > FONTS > ENCODING. For the Encoding: Unicode.
Then, for Variable/Fixed Width Font, choose SimSun (bundled with MS Office 2000 and MS FrontPage 2000), or Arial Unicode MS, or some other Unicode font installed on your computer that can display both the Chinese characters and the Pinyin with tone diacritics on this web page.
If needed, also select the following from the menubar:   VIEW > CHARACTER SET > UNICODE (UTF-8)

Using Wenlin 2.0 Demo for UTF8-encoding of Chinese
and Pinyin with Tone Diacritics

This is a test to see how well the (non-expiring) Wenlin 2.0 Demo program (for Windows and Macs) works as a text editor to generate Chinese text and Pinyin with tone diacritics. First, be sure the clipboard format in Wenlin is set to UTF-8:

EDIT -> FORMAT --> UTF-8

The following short sentence was input into the Wenlin 2.0 demo, and then simply copied and pasted into this web page:

Tā hěn hǎo.

他很好.
Tone diacritics are input into Wenlin simply by typing the tone number immediately at the end of the syllable. For example, type "Ta1" in the above example, and the syllable is automatically converted by the program and displayed as "Ta" with a macron over "a".
