Bebe
Miller Ohio State dance professor and award-winning choreographer Bebe Miller
and her New York company will perform Landing/Place at 8 p.m. Sept. 30 and Oct.
1 in the Drake Center's Thurber Theatre. This new piece combines Miller's rich,
sensuous choreography with layers of projected iagery derived from
motion-capture technology and computer animation - using the resources at the
Advanced Computing Center for Art and Design - as well as spoken word and live
music by composer Albert Mathias.
As
part of the creative development of this piece, Miller's company worked with
Ohio State dance students and used state-of-the-art digital technology at
ACCAD's Motion Capture Lab. Motion capture technology recorded every movement
and transformed it into animation, which is , -projected onto screens
simultaneously with the live performance.
Inspired by a trip to Eritrea, North Africa, Landing/Place explores cultural dislocation, feelings about being home and away, and the sense of place in a global human landscape.
Miller and her collaborators will participate in post-show discussions both nights. Tickets are $16 for the general public, $13 for Wexner Center members, $10 for students and $5 High 5 tickets for teens. For tickets, call the Wexner Center's Mershon box office at 292-3535 or Ticketmaster at - 431-3b00 or visit www.wexarts.org.
