General Background:
Christopher Highley (Associate Professor) grew up near Manchester in the north of England. After studying English at the University of Sussex, he earned his Masters and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Southern California and Stanford University (1991) respectively. He specializes in Early Modern literature, culture, and history. Author of books: Shakespeare, Spenser, and the Crisis in Ireland (Cambridge University Press, 1997), and Catholics Writing the Nation in Early Modern Britain and Ireland (Oxford University Press, 2008). Currently working on an edition of Thomas Dekker's "The Whore of Babylon," a collection of essays on the afterlives of Henry VIII (forthcoming, Cambridge University Press), and a study of the material remains of Early Modern rulers.
